Utah State University

Since its founding in 1888, Utah State University has evolved from a small, agricultural college to one that is nationally and internationally recognized for its intellectual and technological leadership in land, water, space, and life enhancement. As Utah's land-grant and space-grant institution, the university is led by President Stan L. Albrecht and has 850 faculty who provide education for more than 23,000 undergraduate and graduate students, including 10,000 in its continuing education sites located throughout the state of Utah. USU occupies 7,000 acres, 400 of which are on campus, with more than 200 buildings, 63 of which are devoted to academics. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dean and Executive Director is the chief academic officer of the regional campus and reports directly to the Executive Vice President and Provost. This opening represents an extraordinary opportunity to lead the Tooele Regional Campus to new heights of achievement.

The position is available July 1, 2009 or at a time convenient to the selected incumbent. Application review will begin August 15, 2008 and will continue until the position is filled.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide dynamic administrative and intellectual leadership for the Tooele Regional Campus
Oversee educational centers throughout the western and southern regions of Utah
Articulate and pursue a vision for a twenty-first century regional university campus and associated educational sites
Build strong working partnerships within the university and communities
Effectively represent the needs of the Tooele Regional Campus to the University
Maintain a close working relationship with Tooele Regional Campus faculty and staff to foster collegiality at all levels
Secure resources for the Tooele Regional Campus through development and fund-raising activities
Promote and facilitate expansion of research and educational programming at the Tooele Regional Campus
Provide leadership in the planning and development of a growing campus
Work effectively with advisory groups and productively engage the student body
Serve with a collegial team of fellow deans; participate in the Council of Deans meetings

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Academic credentials sufficient for appointment to the rank of Full Professor in a professional discipline at a Carnegie Research I Institution
Outstanding academic leadership experience
Record of executive responsibilities in higher education
Commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education
Ability to motivate achievement in others
Ability to build and enhance relationships with all stakeholders
Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and equal opportunity within the workplace
A commitment to succeed in advancement and fund-raising
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of current and evolving trends in the distance education arena
Understanding of, and appreciation for, applications of technologies and strategies that promote effective educational program delivery
Demonstrated success in management of budgets and fiscal resources and supervision of employees
Demonstrated collegial relationships with faculty, students, and staff to foster an environment of professional growth
Demonstrated ability to problem solve
Demonstrated ability to be innovative and respond to challenges

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
An appreciation of, and commitment to, the land-grant mission of the University
Administrative experience in a Carnegie Research Level I University regional campus system
Record of distinguished leadership and accomplishments in distance education venues associated with a free-standing university campus
Experience in the development of collaborative partnerships and programs with other campus units, school districts, the community, and neighboring institutions
Record of outstanding teaching experience and passion for teaching excellence
Demonstrated ability to secure external funding through contracts and grants
Experience in securing private and foundation gifts
Experience developing educational programs that serve the needs of diverse cultures
