University of Illinois Names Interim Provost

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. ― The University of Illinois has named an interim provost to take over after the resignation of the No. 2 official on the Urbana-Champaign campus.

Acting Chancellor Barbara Wilson said Thursday that Edward Feser will serve as interim provost until someone is hired to permanently fill that job. Feser is dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts at the campus.

Feser takes over for Ilesanmi Adesida, who resigned this month along with the campus’ top official, Chancellor Phyllis Wise, amid a series of problems at the university. They included disclosure that Wise, Adesida and others used private emails to discuss university business without public scrutiny.

University officials have said a new chancellor will be hired in six to nine months and a provost after that.
