BISMARCK, N.D.

Three tribal colleges in North Dakota are getting federal grants totaling nearly $6 million to improve academic quality, the state's congressional delegation says.

Fort Berthold Community College in New Town is getting grants of $475,000 and $1.7 million through the Education Department to increase student enrollment and build a new geothermal heat pump system.

United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck is receiving $1.5 million for the erection of a 27,500-square-foot technology center.

Cankdeska Cikana Community College in Fort Totten is getting grants of $812,000 and $1.5 million for the construction of a multipurpose facility and the development of an early childhood training center.

Each of the grants is allocated under the American Indian Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities Program.
