Blue Light by Walter Mosely, Little, Brown Company, $24.00, 288 pages.

Award-winning mystery writer Mosely tries his hand at a new genre with this his first work of science fiction. In this new story, characters in the Northern California setting are infected by an extraterrestrial blue light that endows them with superhuman powers. In recent interviews, the author has suggested that this may be the first installment in a trilogy.
