Supreme Court Rejects School Race Plans
Diverseeducation.com, June 28, 2007

The decision by the U.S. Supreme Court is not at all strange when taking into account the actions of the Court since the retirement of Chief Justice Warren Burger and the ensuing appointments of associate justices whose politics have led to legal decisions resulting in the loss of gains of the civil rights movement. The last two appointments, and the fear manifested by those who opposed these appointments, is being made quite apparent by their voting. Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justice Samuel Alito are merely carrying out their agendas, and the persons who will ultimately be affected are the very youth whom they claim to “save.”

Appreciation:
Dr. Elias Blake, 1929-2007
Diverseeducation.com, June 28, 2007

I met Dr. Blake at NAFEO some years ago, and he
was the distinguished educator many of us strive to become. A true loss for not just HBCUs but for all educational institutions.

— Curtis Johnson

Dr. Elias S. Blake was my president when I was a student at Clark College in 1985, and I have measured all other presidents by him. He was a giant of a man in every way.

My prayer is that all of us will strive to keep his legacy of hope and empowerment alive.

— Dr. Cynthia Bond Hopson

I did not know Dr. Blake on a personal level, however, I enjoyed a number of two-hour dialogues with him over the years as our paths crossed. He repeatedly impressed me as passionate and thoughtful, and had keen-minded views about HBCUs and their future. Indeed, we owe Elias a debt of gratitude for his significant contribution to ensuring a brighter future for our schools.

— Robert L. Ford
