NASHVILLE Tenn.

Police are searching for three men who pulled a gun on a Tennessee State University student inside his dorm.

The men walked into Walton Hall just after 1 a.m. Monday and knocked on the student's door, police said. When the student opened the door and saw the men had a gun, he tried to close the door and a shot was fired into his room, according to police.

No one was injured.

Police said it is unclear why the incident happened or how the gunmen got inside the room, which is accessed by a security card.

Campus police have posted crime alerts at dorms and word of the shooting has spread through a campus messaging service that went out to all students, faculty and staff. Police, who patrol TSU's campus at all hours, said they did not know if the men were students or if someone let them into the dorm.

Anyone with information can call TSU's tip line at 963-5990 and remain anonymous, officials said.
