Why Some Students Get Into So Much Debt

Shannon DeJager began her long quest for a university degree 15 years ago, completing courses including biology, microbiology, and organic chemistry at what was then called Georgia Perimeter College in the hope of going into nursing.

When she transferred to the University of Alabama for a bachelor’s degree, it wouldn’t accept her credits in microbiology, requiring her to take that course again.
