NEWPORT NEWS, Va. —Thousands of Virginians who attended schools operated by Corinthian Colleges are eligible for loan forgiveness.
Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring says in a press release that his office and the U.S. Department of Education will notify some 5,300 former students. The for-profit organization filed for bankruptcy last year. Investigators had said the company published misleading job placement rates and charged exorbitant fees.
Herring says students are still repaying debt they incurred based on false pretenses. Corinthian operated several branches of its Everest facilities in Virginia. They include Everest Arlington, Everest Chesapeake, Everest Newport News and Everest Tyson’s Corner.
