Karla ZelayaTitle: Assistant Professor, English University of North Alabama

Dr. Karla V. Zelaya is a rising star in the academy. An assistant professor in the Department of English at the University of North Alabama, her specialty is African-American literature. Prior to her arrival at UNA, Zelaya was a full-time lecturer in the W.E.B. Du Bois Department of Afro-American Studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. An expert on 18th and 19th century African-American literature and culture as well as Marcus Garvey and the Universal Negro Improvement Association in Nicaragua, Zelaya earned a Ph.D.in Afro-American Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
