Representatives from Shaw University are expected to announce Dr. Tashni-Ann Dubroy as its 17th president today.
In a special meeting of the university’s board of trustees Saturday, Dubroy was named successor to Interim President Gaddis Faulcon, effective August 1.
The 2002 alumna and former special assistant to the president for process optimization at Shaw will be the university’s first permanent president since Dr. Dorothy Cowser Yancy retired at the end of 2013. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Shaw, Dubroy went on to receive an MBA from Rutgers University and a Ph.D. in chemistry from North Carolina Central University.
She is the previous chair of the university’s natural sciences and math department, and, in addition to her career in higher education, Dubroy is an entrepreneur who has leveraged her chemistry expertise to develop superior hair care products and services for women in the Raleigh-Durham, N.C., area. She also started a foundation, the Brilliant & Beautiful Foundation, geared toward supporting women interested in the sciences.
