Vallejo has spent more than 30 years in higher education, working as an administrator at community colleges in New York and New Jersey, as well as at four-year colleges and universities. She has offered advocacy and support to organizations such as ASPIRA of Florida, an empowerment organization for young Latinos. She is a past president of the National Community College Hispanic Council and is currently on the national advisory board of the Leadership Fellows Program.
