The first African-American and first woman to be named president of Trinity, Berger-Sweeney holds a Ph.D. in neurotoxicology and was dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Tufts. She is the former Allene Lummis Russell Professor of Neuroscience and associate dean at Wellesley College. Berger-Sweeney is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
