In 1948, the United Nations passed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In part, Article 25 reads, “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care.”
This declaration claims medical care as a human right, that one’s humanity is a sufficient condition for demanding society and its government provide each citizen appropriate medical care for their health and well-being.
