SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City and the University of Utah will each pay half of a $500,000 settlement to a Utah nurse who barred a police officer from drawing blood from an unconscious patient.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports the settlement, announced Tuesday, ended the possibility of a lawsuit by Alex Wubbels, a University of Utah Hospital nurse whose July 26 arrest by Salt Lake City Police Department Detective Jeff Payne sparked widespread outrage after her attorney released body camera footage of the episode on Aug. 31.
Spokesman for Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski, Matthew Rojas, confirms the city and university are each paying $250,000 for the settlement.
Hospital spokeswoman Suzanne Winchester describes Wubbels as an outstanding nurse and says that “we commend her for putting the patient first.”
