Ray Cross to Retire After Five Years Leading UW System, 42 Years in Higher Education

MADISON – University of Wisconsin System President Ray Cross is leaving his job after five years overseeing public universities and colleges across the state — stepping away from a career in education spanning more than four decades.  

“I hope that folks will remember me as an advocate for higher education and someone who believes strongly in the value of higher education — its role in our society, its role in our economy and its value individually,” Cross said in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, announcing his retirement.
