Mississippi Valley Launches $25 Million Campaign

Mississippi Valley Launches $25 Million Campaign

ITTA BENA, Miss. — Mississippi Valley State University is undertaking the largest private campaign in its history, a five-year $25 million fund drive to enhance scholarships, attract top faculty, and upgrade academic programs.
“We’re asking people to dig a little deeper,” Mississippi Valley’s president, Dr. Lester C. Newman, told hundreds of supporters at a Founder’s Day convocation last month.
The campaign is the heart of Newman’s administration. The Southern University alumnus was inaugurated last month as the school’s fifth president.
The fund-raising effort will help Newman build what he calls a “Valley of Scholars” at the historically Black university. The drive, he says, will also be a major theme as the school celebrates its 50th anniversary next year.
