Regents Defer Selection of Interim President to FAMU Trustees

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.
An interim president at Florida A&M University will be selected by the school’s Board of Trustees, after the Board of Regents discontinued the search.
Board of Regents Chairman Thomas F. Petway III says he directed Chancellor Judy Hample to discontinue her search because he decided it was not appropriate for the board to make the selection. The board was abolished by the Legislature last year and will no longer exist after July 1.
“I felt it was important that the FAMU trustees make the decision on the future leadership of the university,” Petway says.
Current President Frederick Humphries announced his resignation earlier this year, to be effective June 30. Petway says Humphries has now agreed to stay on until Aug. 31.
