Preserving, Not Partying, This Spring Break

Preserving, Not Partying, This Spring Break

Plenty of students head to Cancun for Spring Break. But instead of lying on a beach, students from the University of Southern California will be on the beach cleaning up.

The university’s trip to Isla de las Mujeres is one of a new type of
eco-vacations growing in popularity among students. Other destinations include Death Valley, Calif., and Orcas Island, Wash. In Cancun, students also plan to help on archeological digs to unearth Mayan artifacts. Howard University students headed to New Orleans for the second year in a row to assist in cleanup and rebuilding efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. These students may not make it onto
any of the Spring Break reality shows, but they will be making a
real difference.
