George C. Bradley, the executive vice president at Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C., has been named the new president of Paine College.
Bradley succeeds Shirley A.R. Lewis, who retired June 30 after a 13-year tenure as the first female president at the private, church-affiliated Augusta college.
“In choosing Dr. Bradley, the Board (of Trustees) and the search committee found him to be the right new leader for Paine College after considering the qualifications of more than 40 candidates for the presidency,” the board said in a statement released Saturday night.
Bradley received his undergraduate degree in early childhood education and mathematics and his graduate degree in mathematics education from South Carolina State University, according to information provided by Paine College.
He earned his doctorate in higher education and research from Iowa State University.
Bradley has held positions at five universities Webster University, S.C. State, Norfolk State University, Central Virginia Community College and Iowa State.
