Donor of $70 Million Gift to Indiana University Revealed

BLOOMINGTON Ind.

Indiana University officials have revealed the name of the donor of an anonymous $70 million gift given two years ago.

The gift came from Gene Cox, who also donated $15 million on the same day in December 2005.

When the donations were announced, university officials described the $70 million gift as the largest individual donation in the school’s history.

The entire $85 million is earmarked for scholarships.

IU President Michael McRobbie said school enrolled about 1,000 new Indiana students this fall from families with incomes below $50,000.

The 90-year-old Cox is an IU alumnis. He owned Aero Blind & Drapery Inc.
