More Swastikas Found on St. Cloud State Campus

ST. CLOUD, Minn.

The discovery of more swastikas at St. Cloud State brings the total number of the symbols found on the campus to four in the past five days.

University spokesman Loren Boone says two of the symbols were found Wednesday in the Brown Hall classroom building and in an elevator in the Stearns Hall dorm.

Since last week, Boone says the university has also found swastikas etched in the frost on a sidewalk and on a pipe in an obscure area of the Hill-Case Hall dorm.

The university didn’t issue safety alerts after the four recent discoveries.

Boone says the symbol writers appear more interested in getting publicity than threatening specific individuals.

Still, President Earl Potter says in an e-mail to faculty that although the symbols don’t constitute a threat, he believes placing them on campus is hateful and wrong.

Since mid-November, more than 20 racist symbols or actions have been reported on the SCSU campus.
