Professional Appointments

Dr. Ronald L. Carter has been appointed president of Johnson C. Smith University (N.C.) effective July 1. Currently, he is provost and dean of faculty at Coker College (S.C.). He earned a bachelor’s from Morehouse College and a master’s and doctorate from Boston University.


 

 

 

CATHIE CAROTHERS has been named director of the Office of Indian Education in the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Elementary and Secondary Education. Most recently, she served as the acting director of the Office of Indian Education. She earned a bachelor’s and master’s from Northeastern Oklahoma State University. 


 

 

DR. MARNELLE ALEXIS has been appointed director of the Duke Comprehensive Education Institute and assistant professor at Duke University (N.C.). She earned a bachelor’s from the State University of New York, Old Westbury, master’s degrees from New York University and Columbia University’s Teachers College and a doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania.  


 

 

DR. PATRISIA GONZALES has been appointed assistant professor in the Mexican American Studies & Research Center at the University of Arizona. She earned a bachelor’s from the University of Texas at Austin, and a master’s and doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.


 


DR. ELIZABETH YOST HAMMER has been named director of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching at Xavier University of Louisiana. She is also a professor in the psychology department at the university. Hammer received a bachelor’s from Troy State University and a master’s and doctorate from Tulane University.


SHARON HUSH has been appointed registrar at Winston-Salem State University (N.C.). Previously, she was interim registrar at WSSU. She earned a bachelor’s from North Carolina State University.


EDWARD B. JOLLEY JR. has been named vice president for fiscal affairs at Savannah State University (Ga.). Previously, he served as vice president for financial affairs and treasurer at Saint Paul’s College. He earned a bachelor’s from Morgan State University and an MBA from Regis University. Jolley is also a certified public accountant.


MARSHALL MOORE has been appointed vice president for administrative and fiscal services at Montgomery College (Md.). Most recently, he served as chief business officer of the college. Moore received a bachelor’s from Tennessee State University and an MBA from Atlanta University.


DR. ELSA MURANO has been named president of Texas A&M University. Previously, she served as vice chancellor and dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M. Murano earned a bachelor’s from Florida International University, and a master’s and doctorate from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
