Book Discussion: Author Richard Thompson Ford will present a reading from his book, The Race Card: How Bluffing About Bias Makes Race Relations Worse Talent Show: “College Hour” — The Black Student Union, Brother to Brother, Shades of Africa and the Hip-Hop Club, among other groups, will showcase their talents Concert: “Make a Joyful Noise Gospel Concert” — Foothill College Gospel Choir and Bay area gospel choirs will gather to perform
Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis
Event: Soul Cinema, “The Great Debaters”
Event: African American Cultural Leadership Luncheon — A Black community leader will offer students advice on the road to success and leading a diverse organization Event: Bowling with the Black Student Union Discussion: “Black and Brown Get Down” — The Black Student Union and Latino Student Association will discuss stereotypes, myths, truths and commonalities between the two communities
The Ohio State University
Event: Black History Month Cultural Celebration — Hosted at the Fisher College of Business, the celebration will feature African-American art, music, food and dance
University of Georgia
Presentation: Posters honoring African- American achievements will be on display across the campus featuring Black inventors, activists and contributors who impacted society
Speaker: Dr. Fran Dorsey, artist and assistant professor of Black American studies at Kent State University
University of Houston-Victoria
Event: Parade & Heritage Festival — The college’s Black History Month parade will feature floats and bands from local civic and governmental organizations; a festival will follow featuring food, entertainment and cultural activities
University of Virginia
Discussion: “Repairing History: The Ethic of Responsibility to Remember” — State of the Office of African-American Affairs Address, Dr. Maurice Apprey, Dean, Office of African-American Affairs
Concert: Vusi Mahlasela — An accomplished guitarist, percussionist, composer, band leader and arranger who bridges music from his native South Africa with folk, world, blues and soul Event: “Keeping it Rich with Sakina” — Personal finance expert Sakina Spruell will motivate and educate students to have a financially lucrative life
