ROCK HILL, S.C. ― Winthrop University has spent more than $30,000 on legal costs related to an ongoing dispute with its former president.
The Herald of Rock Hill reports Sunday that the school’s legal bills through the end of October were more than $32,000.
Jamie Comstock Williamson was fired in June after one year on the job when the board determined she violated the university’s nepotism policy, lied and was demeaning and rude. Williamson has denied the trustees’ claims and has threatened to sue.
Last month, Williamson and school officials held mediation in an attempt to resolve the issues, but the effort was unsuccessful. In September, the school hired a consultant to help it find a new president.
