Arizona State Planning to Fire Police Officer Who Arrested Professor

TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State University has started termination proceedings against a campus police officer accused by one of the school’s professors of wrongful arrest and excessive force.

The Arizona Republic reports that Officer Stewart Ferrin was notified Wednesday of the university’s intent to fire him.

Ferrin has been on administrative leave since July after a police dashcam video of the arrest went viral.

His attorney plans to appeal the school’s decision.

Ersula Ore pleaded guilty last year to one count of resisting arrest.

The assistant professor of English at ASU was arrested May 20 when she refused to show identification.

Ore reportedly kicked Ferrin in the shin after he stopped her for jaywalking in the middle of a street near campus.

Video of the arrest shows Ferrin throwing Ore to the ground.
