MARY BYRNE MCDONNELL was named senior vice president for strategic learning and special initiatives at the Social Science Research Council. She has worked at the Council for several decades and directed the East Asia Program. McDonnell earned a master’s degree in international affairs and journalism and doctorate in history, all from Columbia University.
