VANESSA K. VALDÉS has been named director of the Black Studies Program at City College of New York. She currently serves as associate professor of Spanish and Portuguese at the college. Valdés received a bachelor’s degree in English from Yale University and a Ph.D. in Spanish and Portuguese from Vanderbilt University.
