Bowie State University President To Leave At End of Academic Year

BOWIE, Md.
Dr. Calvin W. Lowe recently announced that he would leave the presidency of Bowie State University at the end of the academic year.

“Having achieved most of my personal and professional goals at BSU, it is time to pursue other interests,” Lowe said to a group of faculty, staff and students at the university’s administrative retreat, and in a letter to the USM system chancellor Dr. William E. Kirwan.

Lowe became the ninth president of BSU on May 1, 2000.

Among the accomplishments during his tenure, BSU experienced a

significant enrollment increase, completed two new buildings and began construction of a third, built one of the world’s fastest supercomputers, provided laptop computers to all of its freshmen and achieved historic success in its athletic programs.

Lowe will take a sabbatical year at the conclusion of his presidency.
