The South Carolina State University Board of Trustees has decided not to renew the contract of president Andrew Hugine.
The board met by telephone Tuesday and decided to let Hugine go based on his most recent performance review and an academic review of the university done in May.
Hugine became president of South Carolina State in July 2003.
Trustees say they will name an interim president soon and conduct a nationwide search for a new president.
