University of Alaska regents have rescinded a proposed bonus to UA President Pat Gamble at his request.
KTUU-TV reports the vote Monday was 9-1 to rescind the $320,000 bonus that the board had approved if Gamble remained in the post through 2016.
Gamble last week said the timing of the bonus ― equal to a year of his salary ― was not right. He said that, with budget concerns and enrollment challenges, the bonus had become a negative distraction.
Regent Fuller Cowell voted against rescinding the bonus. He says the university wants to attract high-quality leaders and the vote sets a bad precedent.
Gamble says he appreciates the support of the board.
