Drake State President Placed on Administrative Leave

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. ― Helen McAlpine, long-time president at Drake State Community and Technical College in Huntsville, has been placed on administrative leave.

The Alabama Community College System Office made the announcement in a statement Monday, and did not give any reason for McAlpine’s leave, but said it is a “personnel matter.”

Kemba Chambers, dean of math, natural science and pre-engineering at Calhoun Community College, has been appointed acting president, effective immediately.

McAlpine is a former administrator for Huntsville City Schools and was hired at Drake State in 2000.
