Eastern Michigan University Getting New Interim President

YPSILANTI, Mich. ― Eastern Michigan University’s board has appointed a retired school official as its interim president.

The appointment of Donald Loppnow was approved Monday by the Ypsilanti school’s Board of Regents and it is effective Jan. 8. Loppnow previously served Eastern Michigan University for 40 years as professor and provost ― and twice as interim president ― before retiring in 2014.

Loppnow will serve as interim president while the school conducts a national search for its 23rd president, which is expected to be completed this spring.

School President Susan Martin stepped down earlier this year. Loppnow says he’s not interested in the permanent school president position.

Kim Schatzel, the current interim president, announced this month she’s leaving Eastern Michigan to become president of Towson University.
