University of Hartford Names Gregory Woodward as President

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The University of Hartford has appointed Gregory Woodward as the school’s sixth president in its 59-year history.

The composer and musician has been president of Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, since 2012. In July he will take the place of Walter Harrison, who will be retiring after 19 years as president.

The school’s board of regents appointed Woodward on Tuesday. He said he was impressed by the wide range of programs offered at the university.

Before working at Carthage, Woodward earned a doctorate in musical arts from Cornell and served as dean of the School of Music at Ithaca College.

The University of Hartford enrolls more than 5,000 undergraduate and nearly 1,600 graduate students.
