Brown University President Reappointed for 2nd 5-year Term

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The president of Brown University has been reappointed, extending her tenure into 2022.

The Corporation of Brown University appointed Christina Paxson to a second five-year term.

Chancellor Samuel Mencoff says the group is confident in Paxson’s “steady hand, clear vision, energetic leadership and boundless passion for Brown.”

He notes that the reappointment comes at a time of heightened uncertainty in federal policy relating to higher education.

It extends her term through June 30, 2022.

Mencoff says Paxson’s first term was successful and praised the strategic plan launched in 2014 that’s shaping the university’s growth.

Paxson is the 19th president at the Ivy League school.

She says it has been a “pure joy” to work with and learn from the Brown community and a privilege to continue in the role.
