VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.—The president of Virginia Wesleyan College says it will soon become a university.
The Virginian-Pilot reports that the Virginia Beach-based school will make the change later this year.
Its Board of Trustees had asked the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia in February to consider the change. The council has approved the move following a review.
The transition process will begin right away. The name change will take effect at the start of the 2017-2018 schoolyear.
Virginia Wesleyan President Scott Miller says that he envisions the school to be “Coastal Virginia’s Premier University of the Liberal Arts and Sciences.”
