The CUNY chancellor is expected to serve on the national coordinating body’s board to help address challenges facing higher education, foster collaboration among its members, and lead advocacy efforts to drive effective legislation and policy.

Rodríguez previously served terms on the ACE board, including one as vice-chair, and in 2020, was a member of ACE’s national task force focused on improving transfer of credit practices. He oversees the 25-college system of more than 233,000 students on a $4.1 billion operating budget. He also served as president of CUNY’s Queens College and of CUNY’s Eugenio María de Hostos Community College.

“Chancellor Matos Rodríguez is a creative and inspirational leader who is committed to ensuring that CUNY students have access to a high-quality education,” said ACE President Dr. Ted Mitchell. “It’s never been more important for campus leaders to confront the many challenges facing our institutions of higher education and our country. I deeply appreciate his willingness to take on this national leadership role in service to ACE and the entire higher education community.”
