R.I. Assembly Approves Bill to Study Veteran Education

PROVIDENCE — Legislation sponsored by Rep. Samuel Azzinaro, D-Westerly, and Sen. Walter S. Felag Jr., D-Warren, that would create a 13 member special legislative commission to study veteran and military spouse education and employment opportunities was approved Wednesday by the General Assembly.

The purpose of the commission will be to study and discuss best practices with regard to state participation in the Veterans Affairs Department’s Yellow Ribbon Program, which allows institutions of higher learning to voluntarily enter into an agreement with the VA to fund tuition and fee expenses that exceed the tuition and fee amounts payable under the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
