War College Families Adjust to New Surroundings

For many military families coming into the U.S. Army War College for the 2018-2019 academic year, Friday night was their first one out in Carlisle—but they’re hardly new to the process of exploring a new community.

“We’ve been married 20 years, and I think this is our ninth move,” said Lt. Col. Manuel Ramirez, who arrived in Carlisle two weeks ago with his family from Buckley Air Force Base in Denver.

“I think this was the easiest school registration we’ve done, as well,” said Helen Ramirez of their three children ages 8, 12 and 16. “The school district made it very easy. I think everyone understands there’s a high turnover with the military and is used to it.”
