Companies Getting Cybersecurity Talent from Other Areas, Including the Military and Law Enforcement

Cybersecurity recruiters should take a balanced approach to IT talent and seek diverse perspectives, according to a study by cybersecurity association (ISC)², ITPro reported.

(ISC)² interviewed 2,034 cybersecurity professionals and job seekers in the U.S. and Canada for the 2021 Cybersecurity Career Pursuers Study.

Only 51% of cybersecurity professionals have degrees in computer and information services. Only 42% considered a dedicated security education to be critical for the job.

Cybersecurity talent from military and law enforcement made up 31% of the survey.

One of (ISC)²’s recommendations was to build more diversity into cyber security teams by recruiting across race, gender, nationality, and age, ITPro reported.

However, inclusivity for women in cybersecurity could use improvement.

Two-thirds of  the respondents were male.
