A New Jersey bill would help cover federal education funding gaps for students from military families, Burlington County Times reported. The bill – S3948 – passed both state chambers and will proceed to Gov. Phil Murphy, who is expected to sign the bill within a week.

The bill will go into effect for the 2021-22 school year and affect taxpayers in Chesterfield Township, Mansfield Township, North Hanover Township, Springfield Township, Pemberton Township, Pemberton Borough and Eastampton Township.
Families living on federal military installations do not have to pay property taxes for education costs. Historically, federal aid helped cover the expenses for students from military families.
But in recent years, the aid has not kept pace with costs per student in those districts, forcing property taxpayers not living on the base to pay.
