College “Veteran of the Year” Made a Promise to Mom

ELKHORN — When Matthew Giamanco left the military, the first thing he did was keep a promise he had made to his mother.

“I got out two years ago and went right back to school,”Giamanco said.

His mother, he said, didn’t like that he hadn’t completed his college education and constantly encouraged him to finish after completing his service.

Before enlisting, Giamanco said he tried going to college for two years, but it hadn’t been as successful of an experience as he would have liked.
