When Torie Fisher finished her first combat tour of the Middle East, she, like many other young veterans, tried to find a job and establish new roots. Though the then-21-year-old had already carried more responsibilities than what most do in a lifetime, she didn’t have a degree, a professional certificate or any translatable skills. After quitting a series of menial jobs in retail, housekeeping and security, she found a unit that was deploying to Iraq and re-enlisted.
