Fordham writing workshop helps vets communicate

Some stories are first-hand accounts of the horrors of war; others explore life away from the battlefield, sometimes in offbeat and surprising ways. The writers are most often combat veterans. The stories for each 10-week session are published in print paperbacks.

David Surface, founder and instructor of the Veterans Writing Workshop, started the program in 2010. Three Westchester organizations — Fordham University, Arts Westchester and the Hudson Valley Writer’s Center — joined forces to start what was initially meant to be a veteran’s memoir writing program, but soon became something more.
