USD Newspaper Editor Files Complaint

VERMILLION S.D.

The editor in chief of The Volante, the student newspaper at the University of South Dakota, has filed an open meetings complaint with the Clay County state’s attorney’s office.

Justin Wolfgang says the USD Student Government Association violated the open meetings law after voting 13-3 to remove former SGA president Terry Liggins from office in a nearly three-hour executive session. Individual votes were not made public.

Wolfgang says he thinks the SGA members should be held accountable by the students for their reasoning.

One SGA member said the association might rewrite some of its rules in the wake of the complaint.
