SALISBURY, N.C. ― Police say several hundred students and visitors at Livingston College were involved in several fights, prompting campus police to place the school on temporary lockdown.
Salisbury police said in a statement that they were called to the campus of the school early Sunday for a third time because of fights and disorderly actions among the crowd.
Authorities used tear gas to disperse the crowd when there were confrontations between police and people in the group. One person was arrested.
News outlets report the college was on lockdown for the rest of the night.
It is unclear what caused the disturbance.
