The Utah House of Representatives has passed HB260, a bill that would cover the costs of college tuition and fees for four semesters for students with financial hardships to enroll at state colleges, universities and technical colleges.
Sponsored by Rep. Derrin Owens, the approved HB260 establishes the Access Utah Promise Scholarship Program.
The program will be modeled after current initiatives at Weber State University and Salt Lake Community College, which covers remaining costs of tuition and student fees for low-income students where federal financial aid falls short, according to the Deseret News Utah. The legislation would extend the scholarship statewide.
