Dr. Pamela F. CiprianoThe University of Virginia School of Nursing received $20 million to fund scholarships and increase the program diversity, according to university officials.
This is one of many donations given by Bill and Joanne Conway, whose previous grants totaled $15 million. Scholarships will be funded for 10-12 years with a goal of ensuring that nursing students will graduate debt-free. New faculty members will also be hired.
Additionally, the grant will fund the expansion of the Mary Morton Parsons Clinical Simulation Learning Center, which offers realistic clinical simulations for the nursing students to practice and learn from.
“While all nurses are able to provide outstanding care, there is that extra level of comfort and relationship that occurs when we have a diverse workforce,” said Dr. Pamela F. Cipriano, dean of UVA School of Nursing, in a statement. “So we want to do our part to make sure that we are preparing more nurses.”
