Miller has held several administrative positions since arriving at Fayetteville State University in 1998: acting vice chancellor for academic affairs, dean of the college of arts and sciences, professor of history and special assistant to the chancellor. Earlier in her career, Miller served as chair of the Department of History at North Carolina A&T State University and deputy director of the Bureau of History for the Michigan Department of State.
