Howard University Resumes Sports; Investigation Continues

WASHINGTON – Howard says its spring sports teams have resumed competition after a temporary halt because of possible NCAA rules violations.

University spokeswoman Kerry-Ann Hamilton says the athletes who were declared ineligible a week earlier have been reinstated.

Howard canceled several sporting events over the past week, including a pair of softball games against Norfolk State last weekend and a women’s tennis match against Navy on Thursday. However, a softball doubleheader against Coppin State on Friday took place as scheduled, with Coppin State winning both games.

Even though the athletes have been reinstated, Hamilton said Friday the university will continue its internal investigation into possible NCAA violations.
