Furloughs Implemented for Stillman Faculty, Staff

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.—Officials at Stillman College in west Tuscaloosa say furloughs are being implemented to avoid staff layoffs.

The college’s Interim President Peter Millet said in a statement Wednesday that the school has a “history of success and will continue to excel despite challenging circumstances.”

Stillman officials say the furloughs will be executed over the next two months and are expected to apply to faculty and staff but not hourly employees.

Despite news of the furloughs, school officials say the college’s enrollment has grown to 1,000 and they’ve also seen a 30 percent increase in alumni donations.
